So yeah, tryin new stuff. Why not. I've been momin' since 92, 4 great kids and now a wonderful granddaughter. Basically for 21 years I've cooked stuff, sewed stuff, hot glued stuff. It is what it is, I get stuff done.
This weekend after talking with a friend I decided I'd try making homemade laundry detergent....so that's what I did.
I trolled Walmart, getting supplies. If I was organized with a list it would of been easier. But no, I keep crap in the noggin' the vault if you please. Heads up, I think the loss prevention guy thought I was out to rob the Mart, as he followed my random aisle cruising.
1 box of borax
1 box of A&H washing SODA
1 bar fels naphtha soap
A 5 gallon home depot bucket with a lid
Microwave the fels naphtha about 45 seconds and please for the love of God, let it cool.....I made that error, let me take that one for the team. It will crumble...had some burnt flesh on it lol I scraped that off ( kidding people but yeah let me add LET IT COOL )
Pot on the stove with 4 cups of water, melt that stuff....stir....melt....yellow mixture.
Once it's melted fill your 5 gallon bucket with hot water half full.
Add your soap mixture....add 1 cup A&H and 1/2 cup borax....stir stir stir....fill rest of bucket with hot water....stir....put lid on and let it sit 24 hours.
In 24 hours open her up, it looks like funk nasty gloop, that is cool its right....
Got the hubby to mix it, with a plastic mixer attached to his drill. Guess I could of stirred it with a paint stick, but I'm a little this side of lazy.
I added about 10 drops of lavender essential oil...that's optional.
Then I washed a load of towels. They were clean, for real. So cool, new toy....I started gathering things to wash. A load of my 7 year olds stuff....clean...niceeee. I then got the motherload out, my 17 year old sons "pizza parlor" work clothes. The funk from rancid onions could knock a smell defunct person down....and THEY CAME OUT SMELL FREE. Of course I'll update as the week goes on.
I also made fabric softener, which I'll detail tomorrow....remember I'm this side of lazy!
Updating a few days later, several loads of clothes in....still pleased. Think I'm onto something here!!!
